How To Clean Dirty Roller Blinds?

Roller blinds can be a quick, easy and cost-effective solution for any window. They can be custom-made to fit all shapes of window, with bespoke designs available to ensure they remain in keeping with your home’s decor.

They need regular cleaning to keep them looking good and to make sure they last as long as possible. Roller Blinds can become incredibly dusty and dirty, and even begin to develop mould if not properly maintained. Regular cleaning is therefore absolutely imperative to not only make your blinds look and feel fresher, but your entire home as well.

The Issue of Mould on Roller Blinds

Mould is one of the worst things you can find in your home and windows make the perfect habitat for it thanks to the damp air. Mould can easily build up – especially in older buildings – and can begin to creep onto your roller blinds with ease if not regularly cleaned. Mould can lead to permanent staining on soft furnishings, not to mention how damaging it can be to your health.

Bathrooms and kitchens are also prone to mould due to the warm, moist environments they offer. If you are considering roller blinds in these areas, ensure there is enough ventilation within the space to keep your blinds dry.

Regular Cleaning

Regular cleaning will undoubtedly help your blinds to look newer for longer and it can be an easy task to add to your weekly routine. Our blinds are sturdy enough to undergo regular vacuuming and dusting; however, just a simple wipe-down with a wet, soapy cloth will work well for a quick revitalisation.

Deep Cleaning

Deep cleaning is a more lengthy process – but one worth undertaking to keep your blinds free of grime, mould, and stains. It is not recommended for blinds to go in the washing machine as it can damage the fabric, so they will need to be cleaned by hand. Microfiber cloths provide incredible results when used with soapy water. For a more thorough clean for tough stains, you may wish to add a dash of white vinegar or drop of fabric conditioner into the water for fresh-smelling blinds.

The last thing you want to do is to soak the blinds, so be sure to ring out your cloth after dipping into the water. Then simply wipe from top to bottom, rinsing the cloth when required. Once the blinds have been cleaned with soap, vinegar, or fabric conditioner, repeat the process using a fresh cloth and clean water. To prevent mould, ensure the blinds have completely dried before they are rolled back up.

For really bad cases of dirty roller blinds, you can opt to have them dry cleaned, which can roughly cost between £12 – £24 per blind.
